GOIT Guide Date Ratings

How are the Star-based Ratings awarded?

Star ratings give a quick overview of the date place. They rank from one star (terrible – usually not even posted on the guide) to four stars (excellent).

Stars are awarded on a two part premise: (1) How well does the date place live up to the ideal of its date idea and (2) how does it rate to other places listed in the same date idea? Take a bowling alley for example. We don’t rate a bowling alley against a theatre or a rose garden. Instead, we tell you how this bowling alley measures against all other bowling alleys rated against the ideal bowling alley.

Generally, an establishment that does its “thing” well (e.g. bowling) will receive three stars. An establishment that is considered a great date place will be graded with four stars.

What do you mean by “The Gist & Logistics”?

GOIT gets right to the point. You want to know where you are going and what you will be doing before you even suggest the place as a date. That’s the gist. Where the place is, how to get there, how much it costs and parking are all logistics. We’ve saved ourselves time by linking to Toronto.com, which has very good G & G’s for most places.

What is “Extend Your Date!”?

Date extensions are places to go and talk after your primary date has finished in its due course. Obviously, if the date is going badly, you may want to end it early. But if you can’t get enough of one another, you may want to suggest “extending” the date for a just a little bit longer. GOIT helps you with this endeavor.

Why Second Cup tm and Baskin Robbins tm?

Because if we put down anything else, you’d ask the same question anyway. Actually, Second Cup and Baskin Robbins are reliable in their vast franchise network across Toronto, both are open relatively late and the former makes for a good winter date extension while the latter a great summer extension (or, for more excitement, you can switch the two!).

What are GOIT Vets?

GOIT Vets are those who have been there, done that and now wish to share their war stories with others. GOIT really doesn’t want to know whether you had a great date or not; we want to know whether the place was conducive to the dating experience. Even the best dating place can be disastrous if you and your date don’t click. The thumbs up () signify how many people would recommend this date place to a friend. Comments are allowed for greater detail on the ups and downs of each place.

How do you rate Noisiness?

Noise is bad for conversation. Conversation is good for relationship advancement. Lots of noise, little relationship advancement. So we have come up with a four level rating.

1/4 means the place is library whisper quiet. This is actually bad, because it inhibits conversation too.

2/4 represents normal conversation level noise – street noise. This is the best for general conversations.

3/4 means you’ll have to lean in a bit closer to hear what your date is saying… some people call this straining. We call it “loud wedding music”.

4/4 is the death (or deaf) null of listening. Even if you do not like rock concerts, you’ll experience the inability to hear anything under a shout. Not exactly conducive to stimulating conversation.

How do you rate Smokiness?

FAQS: TORONTO’S SMOKING BYLAW AND GOIT RATINGS

Smokiness for some is a necessity. It adds character to a date place. Others avoid it like a plague (literally). GOIT has four levels of smokiness.

1/4  No smoking allowed on premises or the location is outdoors.

2/4  Smoking allowed, but unnoticeable

3/4  Smoking allowed and smell will linger on your clothes after you leave. (Thus “smoke stains”)

4/4  Smoking allowed and you will probably leave the date place with second hand lung cancer.
